Today's seasoned professional possess a variety of skills and abilities that benefit the work environment. Corporate employees are expected to keep up with trends within their field of expertise. If you are fortunate your employer will pay for your education and training. As a result of increased duties and cross-training many job seekers realize they can fill jobs outside of the title and industry they have been working with for years. Recently I coached an individual that was having difficulty returning to the workforce after being laid off 8 months ago from her job where she worked as a District Store Manager for a retail employer. Karen was 49 years old and had worked for over 20 years within the retail industry in some form of management capacity. She posted her resume on Monster and searched for jobs on Indeed but she only had one phone interview in the past 8 months. Her resume looked OK but when I asked her to provide more details in her job duty section it was revealed that she had performed many job duties that a corporate human resource generalist, recruiter and trainer does. She conducted interviews, provided training, negotiated and extended offers. She prepared and distributed payroll. She enjoyed these H.R. related duties so we prepared a 2nd resume that highlighted all of her H.R. related duties. The best place to highlight your specific skills related to the job that you are applying for is in your summary which should always be listed right beneath your name and contact information. Your summary of qualifications is a very critical component of your resume, without it your odds of being recognized are diminished significantly. It was in the summary that Karen listed how many years she had with preparing payroll, interviewing and training. She mentioned what kind of payroll software she worked with, what type of interviewing techniques she used and the size of her audience that she trained. In the summary specifics sell. Karen reposted her revised resume on Monster, created a LinkedIn account and applied to human resource related jobs via Indeed.com, within one week she had three interviews for human resource jobs! Within two weeks of posting her new resume she accepted an offer with a major retailer to work within their human resources department. The offer paid more than she ever earned as a District Manager and an added bonus her exhausting road travel requirements were eliminated. In Karen's case she enhanced her human resources duties but applied to H.R. jobs within the retail field where she had many years experience. One of the keys to tailoring your resume for a specific job is know which skills you have that are of value to the position/client. One of my human resource friends, Cindy, has a general version of her resume and a resume that she uses when she applies for jobs that require a recruiter that has experience finding Information Technology professionals. As a corporate recruiter consultant she has interviewed and on-boarded professionals for Sales and Marketing, Healthcare, Wireless and Information Technology positions of employment. When she applies for an information technology recruiter position Cindy minimizes her background that involves recruiting Sales, Marketing, Healthcare and Wireless professionals and expands on her I.T. recruiter experience. For her latest I.T. Recruiter resume she wrote a list of what are the most common questions she is asked in an interview setting when applying to an I.T. Recruiter position. Upon reviewing her list she was able to answer many of the interview questions in listing those skills first and foremost in her resume summary section. Cindy put in bold the areas she wanted the recruiter or hiring manager to be drawn to when reviewing her resume. If there is something that is very important for the reader to see she will print it in bold red lettering. She also looked carefully at the key words listed within the job descriptions that appeal to her and incorporated as many key words as possible in her resume summary and job description. To identify key words look for the specifics in the job description. Below you will see Cindy's general Recruiter resume followed by her Information Technology Recruiter resume: Cindy Examplelcandidate Cindy's contact information listed here... *successfully traveled to work on-site for duration of contracts as well as worked remotely Summary : 5+ years agency experience, 10+years Corporate Contract Recruitment experience within a matrixed environment.
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Microsoft Silverlight both can be used to develop rich internet applications based on XAML and.NET Framework. However, depending upon how you want your project to shape up, you need to choose between the two or integrate them. An overview WPF has provided developers a unified programming model that has a new graphical user interface (GUI) framework replacing the old "Windows Forms" and Win32 API. Its vector based and graphics processing unit (GPU) enabled drawing framework (DirectX) has the ability to create richer UIs with media and documents than does the Windows Forms. Using a declarative-based language XAML specifying vector-based graphics able to scale and take advantage of hardware acceleration, WPF can render a new level of user experience. One gets a consistent programming model for application building with a clear separation between the business logic and the user interface. Microsoft Silverlight, a cross-browser and cross-platform implementation of the.NET Framework, is a small and lightweight hosting technology delivering next-gen rich interactive media and content over the web and developing browser-hosted rich internet applications (RIAs) that could integrate data and services from several sources. It also builds applications enhancing the typical end-user experience fairly significantly if you compare them with the traditional web applications. How they differ While WPF leverages the full.NET Framework and executes on the common language runtime (CLR), Silverlight is based only on a subset of XAML and the full.NET Framework executing on a browser-hosted version of the CLR. Hence, a lot of basic approaches building WPF applications fail in Silverlight. It supports little of the WPF component primitives and provides only one type of layout. So, if an existing WPF application is to be ported to Silverlight, it would mean rewriting of the whole UI-related code. WPF applications run as standalone desktop programs or can be hosted in a website as an embedded object (on Windows only). However, browsers-based WPF applications (running only on Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows) lose access to some functions and that does not happen with desktop applications. On the contrary, deployment of Silverlight applications can be done on more platforms (Windows, OS X, and Linux) and more browsers. Small and lightweight applications, they consume less infrastructure. Conclusion Though built on peaks of different run-time stacks, WPF and Silverlight share many common capabilities and features. Silverlight embeds WPF to provide web controls with more focus on a UI object model and less on animation. Alone, it misses many 3D functions and lacks widgets. Out of many such missing elements in Silverlight is the GUI. Many missing WPF and.NET Framework features in Silverlight give rise to subtle differences that have to be carefully considered when moving an application between Silverlight and WPF or when building an application that targets both WPF and Silverlight. The author of this article is passionate about writing on various rich internet application development related technologies and is very closely associated with the Web Design Firm .
Hi I am submitting an article related to mapping a namespace to a prefix. I have been through many problems while mapping a namespaces to a prefix, so that it could be used in XAML, i figured out how to do it properly, and here is what i found. Some tips - Do not depend upon "Local" keyword, each book, blog discusses mapping with the same leading you to the confusion. So there are basically two styles to map to a namespace. 1. Mapping XmlNamespace = "(The XAML name for this namespace)" ClrNamespace = "(the name of actual clr namesapce)" then you can provide the prefix like xmlns:my = "the XAML name for the namespace" For ex. Mapping XmlNamespace="myapp" ClrNamespace = "Lap" Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/avalon/2005" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/xaml/2005" xmlns:my="myapp" and to refer to an object of a class under this namespace u'll write somewhat like this DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type my:Patient}" Here data template is nothing but a template for listbox, for which the datatype is an object of a Class Patient; it's nothing but defining the binding, anyways, we ain't discussing binding here. 2. Shortcut method to refer to CLRnamespace, and provide the prefic at the same place xmlns:my = "clr-namespace:(TheNameOfClrNameSpace)" for ex: - (Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/avalon/2005" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/xaml/2005" xmlns:my = "clr-namespace:Lap" I don't think now, you'll face any problem ever with mapping the namespaces Happy Coding Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rachit_Mittal

To understand e-commerce, there are some conditions and definitions that you will need to know. 1st, let's commence with what e-business/e-enterprise is.

The short answer is, "Yes, there are a number of alternatives to Ajax for building Rich Internet Applications (RIAs)." These include Flash, Flex, Java, SVG and Ruby on Rails, as well as a few other niche players. Now for the details, which make up a somewhat longer answer. Flash and Flex, fellows Adobe's Flash, originally created by Macromedia, has quickly become an RIA tool of choice. Initially installed as a plug-in, its Player application started shipping with Windows XP some ten years ago now. Flash delivers some of the best RIA experiences, as well as multimedia. On the downside, there is a longer learning curve with Flash. There is also a nagging, potentially problematic security issue. The Flash Player writes files to your computer in a rather secretive way, and there is no way to change the settings without using a "Settings Manager" located at Adobe's Web site. Finally, Flash takes over your camera and microphone. Flash brings a totally different perspective to building rich clients, but Adobe didn't put all its eggs in that basket. The company also introduced a set of tools known collectively as Flex that provides data integration within a framework using integrated development tools. Taking care of the "XMLHttpRequest," Flex offers easy integration with REST, SOAP or classic HTTP services. Flash is more of a straight-up alternative to Ajax, while some would characterize Flex as something like an "Ajax toolkit." Java's still smokin' Sun Microsystems' Java is an Ajax alternative that has been around the block a few times, and its "applets" constituted among the first rich client tools for browsers. Java applets allow developers to use an honest-to-goodness, object-oriented programming language, while Java code runs in the JVM virtual machine with a "sandbox" for memory. Because of JVM, Java code runs on all platforms, living up to its slogan, "Write once, run anywhere." Applets can access only the memory allotted for its sandbox, which is an important security feature. Still, there are some problems with Java, the first of which is that it does require a plug-in that has to be manually installed for some browsers. JVM must be running for Applets to start up, and JVM may be slow to load at times. The applet has to be downloaded if it is not cached, which takes even more time, and this may be the most serious problem of all, since Web users typically expect ever higher, faster, better performance. A mobile acronym? SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics, a W3C language that uses XML to define 2D graphics and graphical applications. Its current version is 1.1, supported natively in the Opera browser (8+). Some Gecko-based browsers such as Firefox offer limited support, and although Konquerer, Internet Explorer and Safari browsers have plug-ins available for SVG, Microsoft's IE has no commitment to it. The others do. For PDAs (including PocketPC) and cellular phones there are, respectively, SVG Basic and Lite editions. The fact is that SVG will probably experience some adoption in the mobile category before it earns universal support among browsers. The lack of a commitment from Internet Explorer appears to be limiting the adoption of SVG. Ruby, won't you be mine? Ruby on Rails is a somewhat more youthful technology, a free object-oriented language that has gotten a lot of press in the last few years. It is a "full stack framework" for developing database-driven Web apps following the Model View Controller (MVC) design method. Ruby emphasizes development simplicity, reinforced with two near-famous and oft-repeated slogans. The first -"Don't Repeat Yourself," or DRY - is meant to eliminate wasteful duplication, of data or code. "Convention Over Configuration" instructs users to eschew configuration unless you have an "unconventional" situation. Ajax support is innately, intrinsically available and simple to use in Ruby. You get instant functionality as soon as you install it. There are drawbacks, of course, especially if your firm has a well-entrenched system, stable development environment, solid platform and a ton of legacy code. It may not be practical to switch to Ruby - and she is still a youngster, after all. Other candidates XUL (XML User Interface Language, pronounced "zool") was developed by Mozilla to build feature-rich apps that even run when they're disconnected from the Web. As it offers a common set of customizable user interface components, and uses JavaScript, XML and DTD, it should be a fairly simple task for developers working with DHTML to learn it. One major drawback is that it needs a XUL-enabled Web browser, and that means Mozilla-based ones for now. XAML ("zammel") is eXtensible Application Markup Language, and coupled with Windows Presentation Foundation makes up the heart of Microsoft's application development strategy. Microsoft is aiming for XAML and WPF to replace HTML, Flash and PDF, a tall order, indeed. XAML will deliver 2D and 3D imaging, video, animation, audio and so on, and is supposed to erase the line between Web and desktop applications. As an MS technology, it will certainly be used broadly, but it is not likely to make many waves in non-Windows environments. Bottom line If you are hoping to add Ajax functions to an existing site, that is a good place to start, but if you are planning the construction of a new site, and want to use Ajax from the gate, take another look at Ruby on Rails. However, your ultimate decision on the tools to use will depend entirely on what you've been doing, what you've been doing it with and how willing you are to add another tool to the toolkit. If Ajax is the tool you need, then use it. If an alternative works, use that. If you aren't sure what's best, use both until you find out.
Functionality Adobe has been on RIA market longer, so it's not surprising that FlexFlashAIR still offers much more impressive set of features. Let's just cover the features where the difference between both frameworks exists and may be important in choice of target platform. Supported operating systems . AIR is a clear winner here, with Silverlight not supporting Linux on any browser (and nobody's sure it ever will). As for mobile devices, perspectives are not very bright for both: Microsoft promised to support Silverlight on upcoming Windows Mobile 7, and Flash is still not supported on iPhone and BlackBerry. Silverlight functionality limitations are well-known and could easily surprise any newcomer. Lack of printing support, no support for right mouse click, limited keyboard input in full-screen mode. It's surprising how all these obvious shortcomings managed to survive till Silverlight 3, but Silverlight 4 finally promises to overcome them. Features for working with audio and video are again richer for Adobe technologies, but Silverlight 4 promises to cover this breach by adding support for local video recording and enhancing output protection for audio/video streams. Styling, templating . Here Silverlight wins: Flex styling is based on inheritance and commonly regarded as "inflexible. Silverlight, however, has an ability to override current template completely, which is much more powerful concept, but the price is a lot of excessive information in your XAML, making it not easily readable. Out-of-browser capabilities . Adobe is way ahead, AIR is a full-scale cross-platform runtime environment, and it has a number of nice built-in advanced features like integrated browser and support for local SQLLite database with automated clientserver data synchronization. Silverlight tries to move in this direction too, Silverlight 3 has out-of-browser mode, and Silverlight 4 adds much tighter integration with HTML and advanced support for trusted application. Ease of development It's not only functionality that matters. Here we're trying to cover things that not visible to end-user eye, but ones that could greatly effect the speed of development. Programming language . One of the strongest points of Silverlight is that the underlying language is the same good old C# or VB.Net, so you may use the same well-known language both server- and client-side. But it doesn't mean code reuse is very easy in Silverlight: there are ways, but they are not intuitive and require some additional work. The problem gets even worse if you try to multitarget user interface both for WPF and Silverlight: both frameworks have surprisingly large number of differences, although such kind of multitargeting is still possible. IDEs . Adobe Flex Builder isn't as polished and feature-rich as Microsoft Visual Studio, although Flex community has a number of other helpful tools (like FDT and De MonsterDebugger) that may make development more effective. Client-server communication frameworks . WebOrb is a breakthrough technology here, a multi-platform suite that can streamline client-server communication needs, make it transparent and purely object-oriented. WebOrb works both with Silverlight and Flex clients, but Adobe and Microsoft were quick to present their own alternatives, Adobe LifeCycle Data Services ES and Microsoft WCF Ria Services, and both technologies look very promising. Third party frameworks and components . Ria technologies are much in demand, so there's no shortage of third-party software for both platforms. Behavior injection . A minor thing, but one that could greatly improve your code by making the similar UI behavior patterns reusable. Microsoft did a great job of introducing this concept as attached behaviors, although only in Silverlight 4 they will become bindable. Some Flex developers are working in this direction too, but that work is far from polished and widely-known. Validation . Here I can only refer to an excellent article by Alex van Beek. I completely agree with this article's conclusions: Flex validation is much easier to implement, but Silverlight validation is more business logics-oriented and much better suits MVVM scenario. Performance Performance is an important thing, as it greatly affects overall user experience. It becomes even more important when you're dealing with rich internet applications, which are traditionally not as performant as their non-browser-based counterparts. Computational performance . Silverlight is a clear winner in a field of pure computational performance, and Flex has no built-in support for multithreading, which further complicates the situation. Graphical performance . No clear answer here, just some performance benchmarks. The common opinion is that both platforms are comparable in this field. Profiling tools . Here Silverlight may win in comparison to Flex in a very near future, although till most recent times Silverlight had no profiling API at all, and profiling tools were limited to SilverProfiler, whose abilities were very limited, and Microsoft's own performance analyzing tools (xperf), which weren't very informative. The situation has changed with a release of EQATEC Profiler 3.1 and may become increasingly better with the release of Silverlight 4 beta. Flex has its own profiling tool (Flexbuilder), but it's far from perfect, and it seems that there's no alternative at all for now. Conclusions There's no simple answer as to which technology to choose. FlexAIR still seems to be a better option when rich out-of-browser functionality is required, and if your program must run on Linux you don't have much choice. But Silverlight is progressing very fast and promises better integration with other Microsoft technologies, which is not perfect now, but may and will increase in time. As a result, most likely both technologies will co-exist and thrive, so it's not about controlling the market, it's about getting a larger share in new and very perspective field of this market. The future for both Silverlight and Flex seems bright indeed - because this war is not about fighting for the same well-known piece of land, it's about conquering a new and uncharted continent of next generation applications, and as with England and Spain during the Age of Discovery, both Adobe and Microsoft has much ground to conquer.
Which is better, Silverlight or Flash? If you are still deciding between Silverlight hosting and Flash hosting, perhaps this article will help you take a decision. First, let's see what Silverlight is. It is a cross-browser and cross-platform browser plug-in that comes to the aid of companies when it comes to designing, developing, and delivering complex applications on the World Wide Web. This system is very easy to install and the download is absolutely free. Silverlight is able to create rich Internet applications by working with the.NET framework and can create visually rich experiences. The system also allows for rapid development. Silverlight is able to deliver high quality video and makes sure people stay engaged longer. This means more money for some of you. However, Flash is a strong competitor! Unlike Silverlight, it can work on Linux, which is a very nice feature. Although Silverlight is able to use WMV but this is useless when it comes to websites like YouTube. The system is unable to work with.avi and.mov files. It is also unable to bind to models or even connect to the network and obtain data. Flash contains list views, buttons, list buttons, checkboxes, and grids. These things are missing in Microsoft's product, making some jobs more difficult than they should be. Flash supports GIF and BMP formats, aside popular formats such as JPG and PNG which are exclusively supported by Silverlight. In Microsoft's platform, sound processing is unavailable and so is socket programming. Although Flash might have all the above features, Silverlight also has a lot of aces up its sleeve. For example, it supports animations, through the WPF animation model. The model is time based not frame based. All you have to do is define the start and end conditions and the system will figure a way to ge there. By using this algorithm, matrixes are completely eliminated. Also, Silverlight works with XAML (text based) and a simple XML object can output it. When it comes to debugging, Microsoft's product is much more easy to use and also more versatile than Flash. You can also use true type fonts directly in the projects. Silverlight supports JavaScript, C#, and VB.NET programming languages. Flash uses ActionScript, while Silverlight uses XAML. The first is imperative, while the second is declarative. ActionScript is around since the early days of DOS when developers needed to manage the API when interacting with graphics.
Silverlight represents a web application framework explicitly configured for client-side coding, offering a thorough set of rich internet application options. These include support for multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity bundled into a single runtime environment. Codenamed WPF/E (Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere), Silverlight shares the XAML presentation layer with WPF, thus obtaining a technical versatility in building rich user interfaces. One of the foremost reasons for web development in Silverlight is a consideration of client-server round trip time, which would be extremely reduced, since the majority of user interface process requests are done on the client-side. This translates into faster web page responses, smaller loading times, and an overall improved user experience. Due to the compiled execution integrated in the.NET framework, Silverlight executes the high performance.NET code within the browser, at a speed of 250 time faster than interpreted Javascript. What Silverlight brings in addition to the newer client-side technologies is a rich framework library of native classes used for developing browser-based apps. This framework library includes a subset of the complete.NET server-side framework class library, thus allowing developers to re-use existing skills and knowledge. By including support for a WPF user interface programming model, Silverlight enables developers to program an UI with managed code or event handlers, supporting the ability to define and use encapsulated UI controls that are built with any managed.NET language. Basically speaking, Silverlight works on a built-in CLR engine that delivers a high performance execution environment for the web browser. By using the same core CLR engine from the.NET framework, it delivers the same type-system, garbage collector and JIT code generation engine used by current.NET code users. In this way, developers can write.NET code that runs the same in Silverlight, ASP.NE and WinForms / WPF apps, without ulterior modifications to the code.

Microsoft it seems is trying their best to regain their grip on the computer world. With more people turning to the sleek designs of Apple products and the 'cooler' Internet browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, the battlefield has shifted to cyberspace. And Microsoft's latest addition to their burgeoning arsenal, Silverlight technology, might just do the trick. Which gives rise to the question, what exactly is Silverlight technology? Well, one thing for sure, it's more than just a fancy name. Silverlight is a programmable web browser plug-in that allows media to be played over the Internet. This plug-in gives the user the ability to hear audio, view video and animation that are abundant in rich Internet applications. Basically, it's a competitor to the Adobe Flash Player and although they're similar, they're not exactly the same. Tech specs Developed under the codename Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere (WPF/E), it allows the integration of audio, video and interactivity in a single runtime environment, in the same way the Windows Presentation Foundation does. Working in conjunction with XAML, they contents of a Silverlight application can be indexed and is searchable by search engines. Content-wise, it supports the usual array of WMV, WMA and MP3 formats without requiring Windows Media Player, Active X control or even a Windows Media Player plug-in. This makes it a one-stop centre for Internet multimedia and eliminates the need to download different plug-ins for the same application. Silverlight is compatible with Windows Vista Home and Professional Edition as well as with the Windows Mobile 6. Mac users can also download this plug-in since it can be used on the Mac OS. For the average user The specs might make sense to a web developer, but what about the average man on the street? Normal Internet users won't care whether the site they're visiting is made from Flash or Silverlight. How will it affect them? Well, for one thing, Silverlight can make their application much more searchable. As said before, Silverlight content are displayed on screen through text-based markup language called XAML. Although this might not mean much to the average user, it does to huge search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Unlike Flash sites, which search engines can't dive into, Silverlight content will be made available as search results just like any other text on a webpage. Also, for the users who opt for less-used platforms and browsers such as Firefox and Google Chrome, this plug-in will endear to them, since most Internet applications run on popular platforms. And although Microsoft doesn't usually tread the waters of Mac and other operating systems, most web developers have given positive early reviews to Silverlight and this opens a lot of possibilities. And these possibilities are already evident in Microsoft's products. Match.com has already created a feature which allows users to chat to each other on the Internet without resorting to a third-party messenger. Video sites such as Netflix and CBS.com has unveiled their new video players which have extra community features. For example, the syncing of two videos by two different users which gives them the sense of watching a movie together on Netflix. Silverlight technology is already available for download on select platforms. And although it is still new, it is promising to be an important part of Internet applications in the future.
Silverlight Technology developed by Microsoft incorporates the same functionality as Adobe flash. It helps integrate graphics, multimedia, animation, and interactivity in one run time environment. The latest version of the technology was introduced in July 2009. The technology gels well with Microsoft windows as well as Mac operating system. Why use Silverlight? High definition video files can be viewed with Silverlight and Microsoft will responsible for transferring these files to the Internet. The transfer of large media files is expensive but Microsoft will still take the trouble to stream Silverlight media files.
